Excellency of Dignity
Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: - Genesis 49:3
NOW the sons of Reuben the first born of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: & the geneology is not to be reckoned after birthright.
For Judah prevailed above his brethren, & of him came the chief ruler; but the birth right was Joseph's:) - 1 Chronicles 5:1-2
& his brethren said to him, shalt thou indeed reign over us? Or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? & they hated him yet the more for his dreams, & for his words. - Genesis 37:8
& when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
& they said one to another, behold, this dreamer cometh.
Come now therefore, & let us slay him, & cast him in to some pit, & we will say, some evil beast hath devoured him: & we shall see what will become of his dreams.
& Reuben heard it, & he delivered him out of their hands, & said, let us not kill him.
& reuben said unto them, shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, & lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands to deliver him to his father again.
& it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;
& they took him, & cast him into a pit; & the pit was empty, there was no water in it. - Genesis 37:18-24
The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us & to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.-Deut 29:29
NOW when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, why do ye look one upon another?
& he said, behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: Get you down thither, & buy for us from thence; that we may live, & not die.
& Joseph’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.
But Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, lest paradventure mischief befall him. -Genesis 42:1-4
