Fasting Principle: Annointing Thine Head
But thou, when thou fastest, annoint thine head, & wash thy face;
- Matthew 6:17
Often times we find that the best way at handling adversity is to stand bold in our truth. Not to be bold In a way that is arrogant or insensitive, but rather in a way that encourages sincerity of spirit. This sincerity becomes our greatest self-defense, according to our own authenticity. But the rooted question that will always be, is why? Why do we do what we do? This is in precept that we:
”Sanctify the mastering DIVINE in our hearts: & be ready always to give an answer to every man that ask you a reason of the hope that is in you.” - 1 Peter 3:15
Consider the Intention
So in this, we see that there’s a calling that we understand the purpose behind our practice. If we abstaine for a time, what is our intention in doing that? Understanding the sincerity of our spirit & affirming that sincerity, this is what it is to “annoint thine head” The part in our practice which gives way toward self-enlightenment we hope to gain in the process. This calls for a necessity of deep prayer & meditation, which I see is a whole other lesson in & of itself. & yet again, we find it rooted in the sincerity of spirit, (that is, rooted in the faith.)
