Jeremiah 3: Backsliding Israel
Then there came again & touched me one like the appearance of a man, & he strengthened me,
& said, O man greatly Beloved, fear not: Peace be unto thee, Be strong, yea, be strong. & when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, & said, let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. -Daniel 10:18-19
Intercession is one in the same as the ministry of reconciliation. Essentially, the one who intercedes is providing the afflicted with the clarity or understanding of how to overcome their burden, assisting them in that process if any way possible. Consider this in the case of Israel as an estranged wife, written in the book of Jeremiah:
THEY say, if a man put away his wife, & she go from him, & become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? Shall not the land be greatly polluted? But thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD. -Jeremiah 3:1
Therefore the showers have been with-holden, & there hath been no latter rain; & thou hadst a whore’s forehad, thou refusedst to be ashamed.
Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, my father, thou art the guide of my youth? -Jeremiah 3:3-4
& the LORD said unto me, the backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.
Go & proclaim these words toward the north, & say, return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; & I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, & I will not keep anger for ever.
Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, & hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, & ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.
-Jeremiah 3:
Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; For I am married unto you: & I will take you one of a city, & two of a family, & I will bring you to Zion:
& it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied & increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, the ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: Neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; & all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: Neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart. -Jeremiah 3:11-17
