Sha'ul & His Zealous Roots
Besides the actual vision which led toward his set-apart Apostleship, we can see through Galatians 1 that Sha’ul’s actual understanding of the gospel is not the result of being taught by man, but rather a result of his exceeding zeal of the tradition of his Fathers, (being also deeply rooted in the laws of Torah, given by Moshe)
& that in the zeal of his own understanding of the law, his eyes were enlightened at the revelation of Ha-Mashiyach in a vision, so much so that he could comprehend what his fellows couldn’t that also seen the light.
This is what set him apart from many other apostles, His Zealous Roots.
But even still with this in mind, there are those even today that would say that because he bear witness of himself as an apostle set apart, his witness is not true.
“It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.” - John 8:17
“but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: & ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, & in all Judea, & in Samaria, & unto the uttermost part of the earth.” -Acts 1:17-18
“& they were all filled with he Holy Ghost, & began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance.
& there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under Heaven.
Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, & were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.” -Acts 2:4-6
In this we can see a distinction between Shaul’s understand of the Gospel compared to that of the other's that were gathered at Jerusalem. That the spirit gave them an utterance to speak with other tongues, where as Sha’ul on the other hand was gifted with a vision to comprehend the Gospel expansive from the Law.
So What collective purpose would we find with speaking tongues in comparison to pro-vision?
I would say that those that be edified through tongues may discern even in the midst of uncertain dillusion.
“Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe; but to them that believe not: But prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, & all speak with tongues, & there come in those that are unlearned, or unbeleivers, will they not say that they are mad?” - 1 Corinthians 14:22-23
These being in precept with the 11th verse, that they be both barbarian in their understanding one of the other. In this we see the importance in the interpreter of tongues. With the intent that the church may be built in understanding.
The interpreter of tongues serve as common ground & understanding. I believe that this in part was the role of Shaul in preaching the gospel toward uncircumcision, that is, toward the gentiles.
With the intention that those being rooted & grounded in love:
“may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, & length, & depth, & height;” -Ephesians 3:18
